trying to capture the best possible of each build.ĭid you look over any of the original game code for reference in coding this port? It features the object placement and homing attack of the demo, most of the mechanics are like in the final version, and then there’s some bits of the beta build in the homing attack tricks. I’d say right now that it’s a mix of the demo, final, and little bit of the beta altogether. What build of Sonic ’06 do you plan on attempting to replicate?

In the beginning it was a solo project, but over time people either by interest in the game itself, by wanting to face the challenge, or simply to help started to join me. It started almost 5 years ago, originally a Blitz Sonic mod. How long has this project been going on? Is it a solo project, a team with rotating volunteers, or a dedicated team working on it? The objective was simply to learn how to use available tools to create a game, and I have learned a lot! I think it was more like a test to myself to see how far I could go since so far I had only worked on smaller, two dimensional projects, but also because making games seemed fun and I wanted to give it a try. How would you explain the reasoning and objective behind this project?

Also, some responses have been slightly edited for readability, but the content of the responses has not been altered in any way. Questions are presented in bold, while responses are not. We hope you enjoy reading the responses as much as I did. The following interview was conducted solely over email, and was recorded over the process of three days. Ladies and gentlemen and others, I present to you, hopefully everything you’d want to know about the ins and outs of the Sonic 2006 PC port, from the mouth of its current leader, Gistix! So, faced with a lack of information, and a thirst to spread the good will of odd, ambitious projects, I went straight to the source. And to me, a Unity port of this maligned title was far too weird to pass up. Not because I like Sonic 06, god no, but because I am a huge lover of weird games and weird ports. Rather than stick with a few fleeting moments of “hey that’s a thing”, the very idea stuck to me so hard that it gave me a jolt of energy. However, much against others’ reactions, mine was of…curiosity. What do you say when the words “fan-made Sonic 2006 PC port” jump at you? What sort of images, reactions, and most importantly, questions, pop into your head when this prospect meets your mind? Is it perplexing? Audacious? Blasphemous? These were of course all reactions I saw when news broke of a demo for a full fan-made recreation of the ill-fated and infamous Sonic 06 in Unity.
